Ok, so I just spent what seemed like ten minutes reading about all of the possibilities in using technology in education, it was really 2 1/2 hours. I am completely awestruck with this link below. I have been trying to use the polling devices for formative assessments in an effort to improve classroom performance, but now I see a way to make this work. Students would be able to use their (smart) phones in order to give the teacher an opportunity to monitor their understanding of their targets being taught. I'm so happy to have come across the website socrative.com to have a new platform on which I can work with my students.

I went to a professional development conference a few months ago and they would periodically have polls where we could vote on our phones. It made the speakers more engaging, and I think students would like anything that would involve using their phone. Thanks for the site!
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to spend the 2+ hours on this right now but I will definitely get there. I have been extremely interested in using clickers in the classroom and, after going to training, I decided to skip the idea. The clickers were going to cost each student a minimum of $50 because the college has set a standard. Their books are already so costly that I didn't want to require more. However, I think just about everybody will have a smart phone:) I'm anxious to try this out.
ReplyDeleteI work in an affluent area and somehow each student does not have one, so I am in a bit of a quandary from that, wonder what I can do...
